BlackBerry officially leaves BB10 OS behind 2016
BlackBerry putting BB10 behind it, goes Android
Blackberry is going a new direction in this year 2016. The company is ditching the BB10 operating system for the popular Android for its smartphones. The phone company has already released the Priv running on Android 5.1 Lollipop as a demonstration of its transition to the new operating system.
CEO John Chen was optimistic that the adoption of Android on Blackberry devices will scale up profits for the company in the coming years allowing it to compete with other smartphone giants on the mainstream market. The CEO was however non-committal on elaborating the company’s new direction.
This will no doubt have a ripple effect on the mobile telephony market as Blackberry has stayed on the sidelines for long as the likes of Samsung and Apple dominate the African market. The entry of Blackberry into the mix will prove to be interesting as they year advances. All eyes will be on how the Priv does in the market to see if the decision by Blackberry will be vindicated.
