Capitec Bank gets major love on Twitter after debit order charges debate

Capitec Bank found itself right in the middle of a Twitter debate, after Twitter users learned that Capitec Bank only charges a low R3.20 for a debit order, as compared to the high charges from the other South African banks.

This is great, as Capitec emerged as the bank with the  cheapest bank charges, considering that the Rand is doing so poorly and just about everything else is expensive.

This also highlights just how expensive the other banks are.

The cost of a debit order in South Africa:

  • Fnb R16
  • Absa R15
  • Nedbank R13
  • Standard Bank R12
  • Capitec R3.20

The debate was sparked by a tweet from a user, who made it clear that a guy using and carrying a Capitec Bank card was a turn off:

Of course Tweeps just wouldn’t let her get away with that tweet, and Capitec bank pretty much became one of the most talked about topics on Thursday. It got a lot of love from Twitter, and it even made me think that I should score an account with them.

I am an FNB account holder but those bank charges are just too insane!! (Definitely something to think about!)
